Palma Shorts — in organic broadcloth undyed

These are the shorts you want to wear in a heat wave! Our Palma Shorts are sewn from our exquisitely airy, lightweight, organic cotton broadcloth. They are dreamy and durable — everything we desire on sultry summer days.

Organic Japanese Broadcloth

The most orthodox shirting fabric, broadcloth is a finely woven single yarn 50/1 fabric that is exquisitely airy, perfect for hot summer days. We love the crisp, silky feel of this fabric which is due to the fine, ultra-long staple cotton being so densely woven. Sumptuous to the touch, this is the finest organic cotton woven we've found. The quality of fabric is the result between the quality of the farming that grows the plants and the processing that turns plants into fabric. The cotton that makes this broadcloth is an ultra-long staple pima cotton organically grown by Bergman Riviera Farm in Peru, where cotton has a long cultivation history with earliest known examples dating to 6000 BC. It's then shipped by the bale to Tokyo, where it's processed and woven by our new organic-only partner fabric mill.

DESIGN & PATTERNMAKING

Sarah Danu aims to create clothing that makes you feel amazing. Perhaps it's all that good earth-direct energy our materials hold or the good intentions of everyone involved in our process going the extra mile to create healthy clothes in a world favors the opposite, but our customers tell us time and time again there's nothing like slipping into their Danu Organic.Favoring classy, timeless silhouettes with a bit of drama, we're sure you'll wear your Danu Organic pieces often — an essential measure of how sustainable clothes are.Sarah's been partnered with a seasoned patternmaker since before day one to digitize our patterns to print gigantic paper markers to cut & sew our garments.

NATURAL DYE

After our clothes are sewn, we pick them up and take them to our shared natural dye house in Silver Lake. Here we scour, mordant, dip and stir to make beautiful colors, leaving some clothes the natural color of the fibers as well. So far we've used madder, gall nuts and indigo — all organic, healthy for our bodies and the earth!

Sustainability & Ethics

Our earth is a magical place. With water to drink, magnificent forests and resources to support human life, we don't want to cause harm to the earth — as we would love and take care of anything we are in relationship with.Danu Organic was born a reflection of Sarah's evolving values and as we've grown, it has stepped up to meet the values of our customers too, when they inspire us to uplevel. We also hold caring for not just the humans employed by Danu, but all the humans our business relies on as a very important value. We are firmly anti-racist and acting that out by hiring, paying and centering people of color. Also, we ensure that our supply chain does not abuse people of color as the majority of clothing worldwide is made by underpaid WOC, or even children, in poor working conditions. Although we're still at a place where we aren't selling enough clothing to pay the bills, we encourage people not to buy clothing they don't need and not participate in any sort of tricky marketing gimmicks encouraging purchasing a lot of clothing. We also set up our business systems to discourage excessive purchasing. Most importantly, we frequently set aside time to consider deeply if our actions are upholding our values and where we can improve. Then we talk about it openly and take action to do better. As of writing this, I'm focused on finding naturally printed tags and figuring out how to build a non-hierarchical company structure as I've determined that is vital to anti-racism efforts at businesses.
